SPA has an immediate need for a highly qualified Threat Space System Modeling & Simulation Engineer / Technical Analyst in support of the Space Security & Defense Program (SSDP) / Space Warfighting Analysis Center (SWAC)

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical space system threat assessments, models and analysis in support of current and future US space architectures.
  • Generate space and weapons system models in various coding frameworks and languages. Ability to create models for space systems and run analytical simulations in a variety of scenarios.
  • Lead cross-domain threat system studies critical to filling intelligence and information gaps and instrumental to the development of future space warfighting effects.
  • Collaborate and integrate across a diverse team of operational, planning, intelligence and acquisitions organizations to achieve insightful analytic findings that aid decision makers, force design planners, and space system development efforts.
  • Participate in tailored system engineering reviews contributing to acquisition program milestone decision processes.
  • Work closely with SSDP/SWAC mission partners across the DoD and Intelligence Community (IC) to address various technical and administrative tasks, from engineering assessments to staff packages and congressional inquiries.
  • Develop briefings, reports, and summary papers; explain complex concepts in relatively simple language; summarize key decisions; and provide recommendations supported by analysis.
  • Provide support to other SSDP/SWAC Divisions as required.

Qualifications

Required Experience and Skills:

  • TS/SCI (willing to take a CI poly)
  • Experience with modeling and simulation tools such as MATLAB, STK, AFSIM, etc.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in STEM
  • 10+ years of DoD &/or Intelligence Community (IC) space system engineering support, all-source intelligence, interagency coordination, space system acquisition and/or space operations experience
  • Thorough understanding of the space domain to include space system engineering, radio frequency (RF), optics and orbital dynamics
  • Demonstrated initiative and ability to plan, work, and deliver both independently and as part of a diverse team focused on delivering critical assessments for decision makers.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and professionally interact with staff members and executive leadership via both verbal and written means
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (oral and writing) skills. Must have experience in using critical thinking to prepare written reports and presentations for decision makers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

 

Desired Experience and Skills:

  • Advanced degree in STEM
  • Familiarity with SysML
  • Space systems modeling & simulation experience
  • Thorough understanding of the Intelligence Community threat assessment process, its organizations, and its products
  • Intelligence Community analytic experience (specifically with the National Space Intelligence Center (NSIC), National Air and Space Intelligence Center (NASIC), and/or Missile Space Intelligence Center (MSIC).
  • Space Systems Command (SSC) or National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) space system engineering experience
