Division/Group: The Undersea Technology Analysis Group (UTAG), within the Sea, Land, Air Division in SPA, conducts rigorous and objective analyses that enable Navy and other DoD clients to make decisions, strategies, and plans to deliver emerging undersea technologies and warfighting capabilities. One of UTAG’s clients is the Undersea Security Programs, responsible for assessing the security and survivability of submarines and other undersea systems, including analyzing vulnerabilities, threats, and possible countermeasures. UTAG supports this program through analysis of technical and operational issues, planning and execution of engagements with external stakeholders, military operations analysis, and operations research.

SPA has an immediate need for a passionate and dedicated Undersea Military Operations Analyst focused on national security issues relating to the security of the Navy's Strategic Deterrent and other Undersea Warfare mission and platforms. This position involves submarine security (SSBN, SSN, and Subsea and Seabed Warfare) for both the current operational fleet and for the developing security requirements for the future fleet of SSBNs and SSNs.

Responsibilities

SPA is seeking a great candidate to provide direct support and advice to the SSBN Security Technology Program (SSTP), the SSN/SSGN Security Program (S3P), and the Subsea and Seabed Warfare Security Program (SSWSP). This position is responsible for conducting research and analysis, drawing on technical and operational information and experience, and developing insights into SSBN and SSN operational challenges and help develop solutions that will support Security Program's engagements with Submarine Force and Navy senior leadership. The candidate will need experience in, or understanding of, submarine operations. This position is with SPA’s team out of our Alexandria, VA headquarters, with regular interactions with clients based at the Washington Navy Yard.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline or relevant National Security Field.
  • 5 years of experience (operational, policy, security, survivability, and/or technical) relevant to Submarine Security. This could be satisfied by experience in submarine operations or undersea warfare as a Submarine Junior Officer or Department Head.
  • Experience executing or reviewing technical studies, analysis, or design activities in their technical field.
  • Experience comparing technical performance to program objectives.
  • Project a professional demeanor, have strong writing and oral communication skills, and have the ability to proactively work both independently and with personnel from multiple organizations. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

 

Desired Qualifications: 

  • Experience on military staff or organization responsible for tactics development or training.
  • Experience analyzing metrics and conducting operational or technical risk assessment or root cause analysis especially in the areas of undersea warfare or SSBN security.
  • Active TS clearance (Secret required.  TS desired)
