  • Overview

    Strategic Systems Analysis Group (SSAG) provides multiple organizations within the Department of Defense with timely and objective assessments and recommendations that integrate technical, operational, programmatic, policy and business analysis.  We focus on key clients in the undersea community including Navy’s Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), and NAVSEA program managers for the COLUMBIA Class SSBNs and in service submarines.  We work to provide integrated solutions based on information and communications throughout the chain of command to ensure clear and consistent analysis and recommendations that are aligned to strategic and leadership goals while still being executable by the working level technical communities.


    The Candidate will be expected to support the customer in a fast paced environment with simulation-driven assessments and products. The candidate will participate on multidisciplinary study teams and perform the following activities: study planning; simulation development, evaluation, verification, validation, and execution; data extraction and analysis. The candidate will develop scientific algorithms/models for simulations and data processing tools; and work with the multidisciplinary team to create integrated analysis reports and recommendations to clients.



    • Master’s Degree in either physics or aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical or electrical engineering or applied mathematics.
    • 5+ years of experience with flight trajectory modeling.
    • Strong experience (5+ years) in modeling and simulation with Python, MATLAB, R, Java, or C++.
    • Academic or work training in astrodynamics, guidance and control theory, nuclear physics, numerical solution methods.
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products.
    • Ability to work in fast-paced environment meeting complex goals, often without complete data, and adapt accordingly.
    • Willingness to engage in deep self-study of numerous background topics in various disciplines.
    • Equally comfortable working in either project groups or individually as the task may require.
    • Ability to engage complex problems, break them into tractable segments, and solve them.
    • Experience in making detailed project plans and the ability to describe, defend, and adapt them.
    • Eligible to obtain a DoD Top Secret security clearance.


    • Ph.D. in either physics or aerospace, aeronautical, mechanical or electrical engineering or applied mathematics.
    • 10+ years of professional experience preferred.
    • Strong experience in either atmospheric or spaceflight mechanics, launch vehicle and spacecraft trajectory design and analysis and/or ballistic missile defense (BMD) and strategic weapons systems.
    • Academic or work experience with:
      • Missile flight dynamics
      • Missile trajectory analysis, design and optimization
      • Ballistic missile defense (technology, systems, issues)
      • Missile guidance and control (space launchers, ballistic missiles, hypersonic vehicles)
      • Optimal control fundamentals
      • Estimation and control algorithms (Kalman filters, GPS, stellar navigation)
    • Experience with currently available government sponsored or commercial 3DOF and 6DOF tools for either atmospheric or spaceflight analysis (TAOS, POST, OTIS) or experience with Systems Tool Kit (STK), or FreeFlyer for spacecraft or missile trajectory modeling.
