  • Overview

    Within SOSD, the Surety Programs Group (SPG) supports government and private sector organizations ensuring the security, safety, and reliability of high consequence operations. SPG’s philosophy is to help our clients understand and mitigate mission risks spanning physical, cyber, and human domains. The Research Analyst will work as part of a cross-functional team responsible for systematically evaluating client threats, vulnerabilities, performance, and cost-risk trades.   


    Support and/or lead multiple, concurrent analytical efforts in support of internal and external clients.  Develop research project plans including objectives, methodology, deliverables, schedule, and staffing.  Provide status updates of current/ongoing/future efforts to leadership and to the customer in a clear/concise manner.  Ensure technical quality of products delivered to internal and external clients.  Help identify and develop new analytical capabilities. 




    • Bachelor’s Degree in quantitative social sciences, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, Data Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related discipline.
    • Minimum of 5 years professional experience with 2+ years leading research projects.  
    • Demonstrated proficiency in research design and execution using both quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques.
    • Experience creating, implementing, and validating measures of effectiveness and performance.
    • Proven track record of effectively communicating research results to both executive decision makers and staff.  
    • U.S. citizen with ability to obtain DoD security clearance.


    • Master’s Degree in Data Science, Operations Research, quantitative social sciences, or related discipline.  
    • Experience with a variety of data analysis tools such as R, Tableau, MATLAB, Power BI, SAS, Stata, SPSS, etc.
    • Familiarity with a diverse array of analytical tools such as table top exercises, wargames, interviews, surveys, and computer simulations and models.
    • Familiarity with database systems such as SQL Server, MySQL, or Access.
    • Computer programming skills (e.g., Python, C#).
    • Familiarity with modeling and simulation using stochastic agent-based software packages.
    • Previous experience providing analytic support to security or safety programs in the Navy, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Department of Energy, or Department of Homeland Security.  
    • Active DoD Top Secret security clearance.
