SPA’s Emerging Markets Group is responsible for a broad range of analytical, systems engineering, independent assessments, strategic planning, and technology research, development, testing and evaluation (RDT&E) programs in support of new SPA markets, as well as the company’s San Diego office and portfolio. This position supports the Safety and Mission Assurance Services II contract at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. It supports the Code 371 Reliability Engineering Branch by working with government task monitors.
Provides day-to-day management and technical leadership for NASA projects by understanding how systems are designed, developed and operated, performing reliability assessments to identify mission performance risk drivers, recommending improvements in design and/or operations concept to mitigate risks, reviewing reliability information submitted by vendors and supporting technical and peer reviews. Establishes mission success criteria, evaluates mission operations scenarios and workarounds, develops reliability program activities, performs reliability predictions, and performs Failure Modes and Effects analysis (FMEA) and Critical Items List (CIL) analysis. Performs fault tree analysis and Probabilistic Risk Assessment (PRA). Performs a review of reliability data and related information. Work with Systems Engineers to manage requirements Verification and Validations. Review Contract Deliverables. Participates in reviews and audits, with an emphasis on influencing design and operations concept during the early stages of the project development cycle, particularly before Preliminary Design Reviews and up to the Critical Design Reviews. Post Critical Design Review, assess the impact to mission reliability from any residual design changes or modifications to the operations concept, and to address any reliability concerns that may arise during manufacturing, assembly, integration, and testing. Executes Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS) to improve design and ensure requirements compliance during operation. Performs Operational Availability analysis and Trade Studies of design improvements.
